President: Angela Pontes
Angela is currently Legislative Director for Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry. Prior to returning to the Capitol to serve in Assemblymember Richard S. Gordon's office, Angela worked in the Third House as a Legislative Coordinator and Advocate at Gonzalez, Quintana & Hunter, representing a range of clients. She also spent time working with the former First Lady of California, Maria Shriver, on her research and communications project titled "The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back from the Brink." Angela graduated from Georgetown University, where she majored in International Health and Spanish Language, and was also an NCAA Division I athlete.
Vice President: Amber King
Amber King serves as the Vice President of Advocacy and Membership for the Association of California Health Care Districts, where she provides leadership for ACHD’s Advocacy Team. Under Amber’s direction, ACHD’s Advocacy Team works with the State Legislature, legislative staff, committee staff, key coalitions, and internal and external stakeholders to analyze and recommend action on bills impacting ACHD members. Prior to joining ACHD in 2006, Amber provided support for Assemblymember Simón Salinas in his capitol office, working as a Legislative Aide. Amber received her degree from California State University, Sacramento where she majored in Government with a minor in Sociology. In addition to Amber’s duties at ACHD, she is a member of the Legislative Committee for the California Special Districts Association. Amber also served as a Co-Chair of the Charitable Giving Committee for the Capitol Network for several years before serving as Vice President.
Secretary: Michelle Reyes
Michelle joined Political Solutions in 2017 where she serves as an associate lobbyist. She has a distinguished background in media relations, public affairs, political campaigns, and public service. In her current capacity as an associate lobbyist she helps clients on an array of issues navigate through the complex world of politics and policy in the state Legislature. Prior to joining Political Solutions, Michelle served as a Communications Director in the California State Assembly, where she used strategic and instinctual media relations to help drive messaging on social media and to key constituencies and audiences at the local, state, and national level. Michelle has also served as Communications Director for the California Latino Legislative Caucus. During this time, she spearheaded statewide and nationally targeted media efforts to address issues that impact the Latino community.
Treasurer: Sakshi Walia
Sakshi currently serves as a Legislative Aide for Senator Steve Glazer where she covers issues pertaining to K-12 education, higher education, and environment. She also staffs the Senator on his Select Committee on Student Success allowing her to organize higher education campaigns and provide recommendations on best practices for students success nationwide. Prior to working in the Senate, Sakshi was an aide with Assembly Member Patrick O’ Donnell where she advised the Member on a variety of issues and provided policy recommendations. In addition, Sakshi is the Chair of the Sacramento Semester Alumni Association and an alum of the California Asian Pacific Islander Staff Academy Program. She received her degree from California State University, Fullerton in Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in Finance and Economics and a minor in Political Science.
Immediate Past President:
Rachael currently serves as the Deputy Secretary for Legislative Affairs of the California Department of Food and Agriculture for Governor Newsome’s Administration. Rachael was previously appointed as Assistant Secretary in December 2017 by Governor Edmund G. Brown. Prior to joining CDFA, Rachael served as Manager of Government Affairs at the Agricultural Council of California, representing approximately 15,000 farmers across the state, ranging from small, farmer-owned businesses, to some of the world’s best-known brands. Rachael also served as a Legislative Advocate for Gonzalez, Quintana & Hunter, LLC, focusing on energy, water, climate and air quality policy. Rachael also worked as an Associate for EcoConsult, an environmental consulting firm, and held an internship position with then-Assemblymember Skinner’s Capitol office. Rachael is a graduate of California State University, Monterey Bay.
Members At Large
Kelli is a Legislative Advocate for the California Medical Association representing the voice of over 49,000 physician members. Her current advocacy portfolio includes the state budget, Medi-Cal, and health care reform. Prior to joining CMA in late 2018, she served as a Legislative Advocate at Political Solutions for over 4 years and built expertise and achieved successes in the public health space and in increasing access to care. Clients she supported included providers like DaVita Kidney Care, the California Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the California Dental Association. Her advocacy efforts while with Political Solutions were also on behalf of non-profits like the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the March of Dimes. She is a proud alumna of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Madison Dwelley currently serves as an associate lobbyist at Political Solutions, representing local government, nonprofit, and retail clients before the California Legislature, Governor’s Office, and various state agencies. Prior to joining Political Solutions, Madison served as a public policy intern at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. Madison is a graduate of San Diego State University with Bachelor’s degrees in both Political Science and Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Law in Society and also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from McGeorge School of Law.
Ivy Ridderbusch is a Legislative Advocate for the San Diego County Water Authority’s Government Relations Department. Prior to joining the Water Authority, Ivy served as a Field Representative in former Assembly Member Don Wagner’s Orange County district office. She received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.
